FAQ

What will my job cost?

The size and complexity of your project will determine the cost. Monster Tree Service is unique because our highly-trained crews have all the tools and equipment they need to complete any size job in the most efficient way. From removing large, hard-to-reach branches, to grinding enormous stumps in your yard, we provide the best work at the best price, guaranteed.

Is my tree dying?

Our professional arborists can determine the health of the trees on your property. It takes a professional to inspect the tree to be sure. Trees that appear to be dying may actually only need some TLC; trees that appear to be healthy may actually be in danger of coming down. Our arborists know what to look for.

What makes trees dangerous?

Trees that have structure defects, that are unstable, or that have dangling or damaged branches are among the most dangerous trees. A large tree is not dangerous in and of itself-unless it poses a potential hazard due to damage, disease, injury, or instability. Trees may exhibit structural problems at the base or in the upper canopy, so a full inspection is necessary to truly gauge the potential risks your home or yard are exposed to. Our arborists are experts in identifying trees that pose a danger.

How can I reduce costs for my project?

There are several ways to reduce costs for a project. First, the scope of the work can be reduced to fit your budget. Second, the project can be broken into phases for better affordability. Thirdly, the project can be performed in the winter, when trees are dormant.

How soon will my project be scheduled?

If your project is an emergency, such as a fallen tree or tilting tree, we will do our best to address your needs as soon as possible. Scheduling care typically varies depending on the season. Typically projects are scheduled within 5 days to several weeks, depending on the size and scope of the job.

Do I need to be home when you perform the work?

There is no need for homeowners to be present when we perform the work. We will take every measure to protect your property, leaving it better than we found it with cleanup and debris removal. That’s a promise.

Are you fully licensed and insured?

Yes. Monster Tree Service meets or exceeds the legal requirements for licensing and insurance as required by each state in which we operate. Rest assured, each Monster Tree Service carries liability coverage to protect your property from harm and workers’ compensation insurance for our employees.

Are Your Estimates Free?

Yes and no. We provide estimates for tree trimming and removals free of charge if you are ok with us scheduling them into our workflow when in your general area. If you need an appointment at a specific date and time, the estimate is provided at no charge, but we do charge a small appointment fee to help cover our time. Most all of our plant health and consulting assessments are fee based. These vary depending on your needs and time involved. Our office staff will gather the details of your project and go over any costs involved.

How Much Does Tree Work Cost?

Cost can vary greatly with tree work. Many variables such as manpower and equipment required will influence the cost. Charges can range from less than $100 for basic services to thousands for large scale tree trimming or removal operations. We will be happy to discuss the scope of your project and provide exact costs.

What Is An Arborist?

An arborist is an individual that is trained in the art and science of planting, caring for, and maintaining individual trees. Learn more about what it means to be an ISA Certified Arborist at the International Society of Arboriculture’s website.

How Do I Choose A Professional Tree Care Company?

Several considerations should be made when choosing the right company to care for your trees. Here are some of the most important:

  • Does the company employ any ISA Certified Arborists? Anyone you entrust with the care of your trees should, at a minimum, employ at least one ISA Certified Arborist. We currently have three ISA Certified Arborists on staff.
  • Is the company a member of any industry specific organizations such as the Tree Care Industry Association? Being a member of an organization such as the TCIA requires the company to adhere to a code of ethics to be in good standing.
  • Does the company have the proper insurance in place? The two most important being general liability and worker’s compensation insurance. Any reputable company will be happy to provide you with proof of these insurances at no charge. We recommend requesting the tree care company have their insurance agent/company email you this proof directly. By doing this, you can be sure the policy is active and in good standing.
  • Can they provide you with current references upon request? If you haven’t seen the company’s work, simply ask for a few addresses of recently completed jobs.

When Is The Best Time Of Year To Trim Trees?

In West Texas, most species can be pruned throughout the year as long as no more than 25% of the crown is removed at one time. However, timing is very important with certain trees such as Oaks. There is some debate about timing on trimming Oak trees, but in general it’s best to avoid trimming/pruning during the months of March-June. This depends on current year weather conditions. If we have an unseasonably warm February, then it’s best to avoid February as well.

How Will My Property Look When The Work Is Finished?

We pride ourselves on how we leave a customer’s property after we finish our work. We never want to leave our customers with a cleanup project. Our goal is always to leave a customer’s property in better condition than when we started. If a customer ever feels that we haven’t made good on this, then we want to know!

What Happens To The Tree Debris/wood?

We generate a substantial amount of what might be considered by some ‘wood waste’. However, we are proud to say that none of our ‘wood waste’ goes to a landfill. Most of our firewood sized wood and mulch is donated to various churches, community gardens, and other organizations. The largest pieces of wood are run through a sawmill and turned into reclaimed urban lumber for use in various projects.

Don't Trees Take Care Of Themselves?

Unfortunately, in most urban settings, the short answer is no. Compacted and nutrient-deficient soil, limited available rooting space, competition from over planting and/or turf grass, over or under watering, construction damage, and damage by humans are all variables that can negatively impact our urban tree’s health. Without proper attention to and management of these issues, trees can decline, fail, and/or die.

Do You Remove Large And/or Hard To Access Trees?

Yes! We use very specialized equipment and advanced rigging techniques for difficult tree removals.

How Do I Know If My Tree Is Hazardous/dangerous?

We have an ISA Qualified Tree Risk Assessor on staff. A tree risk assessment can help a tree owner or manager understand the risks associated with their tree(s) and provide mitigation options to help reduce risk.
